Red Bull can dominate in Singapore, says Daniel Ricciardo — Formula One
“I want to continue like that for tomorrow and Sunday – I believe we can”.
With cocktails and soft drinks served, more than 250 guests enjoyed an afternoon of interaction with the drivers.
Why doesn’t Singapore suit Mercedes?
As teams begin to arrive at the exotic circuit in Marina Bay, the Singapore Grand Prix holds the promise of continuing the excitement the season has held so far.
“I’m happy we got the car where it deserved to be”.
“Both have shown strong performance on low-speed circuits demanding maximum downforce, and we have found life more difficult at those places in 2017”, said Wolff.
They may also face a threat from behind after Nico Hulkenberg continued his promising form this weekend with seventh place on the grid for Renault.
Vettel was 0.323 seconds quicker than Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who edged out team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.
McLaren will be powered next year by Renault, which simultaneously said it was leaving Toro Rosso – who will now be driving Honda engines.
With such onus being put on the red team to walk the weekend, there is the expectation for Vettel to regain the lead of the standings – if he is to be the victor for Ferrari.
Since returning from the summer break Petronas Mercedes has looked strong.
Singapore, however, is suited for both the red cars and their drivers.
Buoyed by his new contract with Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas insists he is not playing second fiddle to teammate Lewis Hamilton. They won again with Nico Rosberg last year. “The balance wasn’t quite there”. The car was tricky but it came alive and was getting better and better as the night came on.
“I knew we had it in us. And that is Ferrari and Red Bull”.
Nineteen-year-old Max Verstappen, who was within touching distance of becoming the youngest polesitter in Formula 1, ended up with the best time of 1:39.814. It’s challenging and I like the fact that we race in the evening.
“I’m not surprised with our performance”, Ricciardo said.
Can Mercedes win this year?
For Red Bull, it is one of the best chances to secure a race win after Daniel Ricciardo emerged out as the surprising winner of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
NBCSN will feature live coverage of free practice two, Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET, and the race on Sunday at 7 a.m. ET with an hour of pre-race before lights out at 8.
It may only be qualifying, but Sebastian Vettel took his Ferrari round the street track in Singapore at the absolute edge of both the car and his own abilities – and he blew away the rest of the field.
