Red Sox, Blue Jays to play exhibition games in Montreal next April
The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays play a short two-game preseason series at Olympic Stadium on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2.
The Red Sox took two out of three from the Jays last week in Fenway Park and have played Toronto even so far this season, splitting 16 games. 195 more than in 2014. If they can continue to play well leading into that last week, things could be tough for New York.
Toronto has hit 21 home runs against the Red Sox this season, one fewer than the 22 they’ve hit against the Yankees, who follow the Red Sox into Rogers Centre for a showdown series beginning Monday night. The passion of the Quebec fans will be greatly increased by the influx of fans from the New England area.
“We’re incredibly impressed with the almost 100,00 fans drawn over last two years”, Red Sox COO Sam Kennedy on a conference call on Friday. Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski is a former Expos’ general manager.
“The movement supporting the return of Major League Baseball in Montreal is stronger than ever before”, Montreal mayor Denis Coderre said, via Joey Nowak of MLB.com.
Montreal fans will have a chance to watch baseball once again in their city, which lost its franchise to Washington, D.C., in 2004.
Tickets start at $24 and go on sale September 26 and can be purchased at eventko.ca or by phone 1-866-908-9090.
Personally, I think it’s going down to the last week of the season. “We feel like we have a connection”.
