Red Sox Closer Craig Kimbrel To Undergo Knee Surgery
Kimbrel is having to have the cartilage in his left knee repaired.
Head team orthopedist Dr. Peter Asnis will perform the surgery at Mass.

“Everything that we did early, he was fine”, Farrell said. Two of those four youngsters – Manuel Margot and Carlos Asuaje – will play in the Futures Game this weekend. “What transpired yesterday wasn’t because of something different or unique to yesterday’s activity”.
Also on Saturday, the Red Sox made a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks for relief pitcher Brad Ziegler.
In 34 games and 33.0 innings this season, Kimbrel has posted a 1-3 record, with 17 saves in 19 chances. Boston manager John Farrell told reporters that both Ziegler and Koji Uehara will get save opportunities while Kimbrel is on the shelf. It seems safe to rule Kimbrel out for Saturday and Sunday, considering he has already been ruled out for the All-Star game.
The Red Sox recalled righthander Noe Ramirez in a corresponding move. He has a better ERA than Kimbrel (2.82), and his sidewinding action will be tough for American League players who have not seen him this year.
