Red Wings Larkin chosen as Rookie of the Month for November
The Red Wings scored the game’s first two goals. His 47 points were second among NCAA freshmen behind Hobey Baker Award-winner Eichel at Boston University. “I haven’t had a chance to talk to him, yet”.
Larkin, of Waterford Township, and Eichel of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts hung around together from 2012 to 2014 in Ann Arbor when they trained and played with the National Team Development Program of USA Hockey. “He’s a good friend of mine”. For college players like myself, this was the Mecca of our playoffs, this is where you got to go, you got to go to the Joe and it was a shrine, it was a lovely place to come and play hockey and the dressing that we’re in right now was the best dressing room of that time, so I’ve had a lot of experience for a long time in this building and had a lot of success in this building and I’m not going to forget that.”Bylsma played his college hockey at Bowling Green”.
“What I like is, I like they are both US guys”, Blashill said. “So he’s super-skilled and understands the game”, Eichel said. “So I’m not surprised at all that he’s doing so well”.
Almost a month ago I predicted that Larkin had become the top contender for the league’s rookie of the year after Edmonton Oilers rookie phenom Connor McDavid was placed on injured reserve with a broken clavicle.
Eichel has eight goals and 12 points after 24 games.
St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said what impresses him about Larkin is his ability to see and avoid the rough areas of the ice. I feel real confident in both guys. “For me, this is my first year having that”. Hes got to have confidence and poise and make plays and ultimately shoot the puck in the net the way Ive seen him shoot in the net and the way hes done it in Grand Rapids.
“It’s nothing new for me”, Kindl said when asked if it’s tough sitting. “I think it is great for the game in the U.S”. If Larkin can measure up to any one of these players down the road, the Red Wings and head coach Jeff Blashill will be very pleased with their 2014 first round pick.
Larkin made the Panthers pay for a turnover, intercepting Aleksander Barkov’s pass inside Florida’s zone and scoring at 7:02 of the second period. Mrazek is 6-4-3 with a 2.19 goals against and.
“I don’t think he had as many points as he probably wanted [at the World Championship] and he was probably frustrated; I know because I was his roommate at the time”, Eichel said. This is his first start since being pulled November 25 against Nashville.
Larkin has recorded points in six of his last seven games. Its because you cant play seven.
