Red Wings, Penguins to play OT hockey – tied or not

The Red Wings were 1-for-4 on the power play and Chicago was 1-for-6. Brad Richards had three assists, and Jakub Kindl and Niklas Kronwall each had two assists.

Antony Mantha scored in the second period for Detroit, and then Riley Sheahan, Teemu Pulkkinen and Luke Glendening all scored in the third to force overtime. Bickell had an opportunity to tie the game again on a breakaway of his own, but was denied by Coreau.

Tyler Bertuzzi opened the scoring for Detroit with 6:37 left in the opening period, slipping a shot through Pittsburgh netminder Matthew Murray that just made it across the goal line.

Forward Daniel Paille and defenseman Jan Hejda, David Rundblad and Viktor Svedberg played in both games against Detroit.

Corey Crawford stopped seven of the eight shots he faced.

Jimmy Howard allowed three goals on 21 shots in almost 30 minutes before Tom McCollum gave up two goals on 16 shots. With their chance to do better at home, Detroit will have their second group of players ready to take on the brute of Chicago’s main offense.

The Hawks travel to Montreal on Friday to play the Canadiens (0-1) at the Bell Centre.
