Redd Foxx, Andy Kaufman to tour posthumously as holograms
Hologram technology, which previously resuscitated entertainers like Tupac Shakur, has apparently reached the stage where actual stand-up shows featuring Kaufman and Redd Foxx are imminent.
Both are set to go on tour next year, according to Hologram U.S. founder Alki David, with each hologram setting up “residencies in multiple locations in tourist-oriented cities across the country”. So now you can live your dream of seeing the two iconic comedians in arguably their most watered-down form, because YouTube videos are for suckers.
David, a billionaire entrepreneur, said in an interview that while the company is “working with other estates of famous amusing guys and amusing girls, these just happened to be amenable estates who see the vision”. “They will play several times a day for the first year and then eventually they’ll be put on a rotation with other acts”.
Hologram United States of America is based in Beverly Hills, the Times reported, and has plans on bringing music legends to life again as well, putting hologram versions of Billie Holiday and Whitney Houston onstage for shows and tours.
Samantha Chang, licensing director from CMG Worldwide, who represents these comics said that people can now be in more than one place at the same time and even come back from the dead.
We didn’t think there would be worse hologram-related news this week than the release of that cut-rate Jem movie, but we were wrong. The idea creeps him out, he writes, and “if they respected the ‘work, ‘ if they respected comedy, they’d know this is a awful idea”.
A cult of hardcore fans believes that Jewish comedian Andy Kaufman is still alive.
“What if Andy actually jumps out of the technology and really appears?”
