Redknapp rules Big Sam out of Sunderland running
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has issued a freakish challenge to prospective Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp – to take over at Sunderland instead!
Redknapp has been out of management since leaving QPR in February and is one several names linked with the post since the Advocaat stepped aside on Sunday,.
Speaking through his open vehicle window in amusingly typical fashion, Redknapp said, “Klopp will go in there (at Liverpool) and probably finish fourth, they might finish fifth”. “I don’t think there is, so it’d be a bit of a slap for me”.
“Sam will look at it and he’s a very confident guy with a big ego who has been successful wherever he’s been and he’ll think ‘can I keep these up?’ If he doesn’t think he can then he won’t take it”.
“He won’t want to get relegated with them”.
“They haven’t recruited very well, and the problem is who is bringing the players in?”
“It’s a good club”.
“They haven’t recruited well”.
He added: “It’s a good club and the chairman’s a nice man. I’ve met him a couple of times”.
Harry Redknapp has had a weird blast at Sunderland, calling them “horrendous”, hitting out at the recruitment and saying the centre-halves are poor. Who’s bringing the players in?
At the end of the season, before Advocaat did his U-turn I was keen on Michael Laudrup, who did such a good job at Swansea but the circumstances have changed since the summer months and in Sunderland’s present situation we need a pragmatic manager who can organise, lead and most importantly get Sunderland out of the bottom three. Is it (Jose) Mourinho? You know they came in and were £18million, £16million, £20million or whatever – then they’re gone. Who’s buying the players? Who’s bringing them in at all these other clubs? Is it the managers?
“The manager gets the blame all the time but who’s bringing the players in?” I’m not sure. Was Brendan (Rodgers) bringing them in at Liverpool?
