Reds’ Pitcher John Lamb To Make Major League Debut Friday
The next batter, Adrian Gonzalez, crushed a three-run home run off Cincinnati Reds starter John Lamb to complete the four-run rally.
-LHP John Lamb will be called up from Triple-A Louisville to make his major league debut Friday against the Dodgers. “The Suarez three-run homer really was the blow that gave us that cushion and allowed me to just pick and choose from the bullpen from that point on”, Cincinnati manager Bryan Price said.
As he was preparing to take the mound for the first time as a big-league player, John Lamb heard what pretty much every Southern California kid who loves baseball dreams of hearing – Vin Scully saying his name. Latos (4-9), who was on the Reds from 2012-14, lasted 4 2/3 innings while allowing seven hits and five runs, four of which were earned.
A sacrifice fly by Reds left fielder Marlon Byrd in the fourth made it 3-0.
“I’m healthy. The ball’s coming out of my hand good”. Jansen recorded his 129th career save, tying Jeff Shaw for second on the Dodgers’ all-time list.
Eugenio Suarez #7 and Billy Hamilton #6 of the Cincinnati Reds celebrate after both score on Suarez’ three run home run in the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on August 13, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.
“This is an organization that wants to win, and I’m excited to be a part of it”.
“Hopefully, we build off it”, Mattingly said.
What followed were successive singles by Jimmy Rollins, Enrique Hernandez and Turner, with Turner’s hit driving in Rollins to move the Dodgers in front, 2-1.
Lamb pitched at Laguna Hills High and was a fifth-round selection by the Kansas City Royals in the 2008 draft.
Center fielder Joc Pederson homered and had two RBIs for the National League West-leading Dodgers (64-51), who fell for the fifth time in seven games. “I definitely felt like I was dreaming”. The other thorn in the Dodgers’ side was all of the 160 lbs. of Billy Hamilton, who had his first-career four-hit game to go along with his two RBIs, thanks to a two-run homer in the eighth.
Lamb will displace Michael Lorenzen from the rotation.
Dodgers: INF Justin Turner will be activated in the next couple days off the 15-day DL, where he landed with a right thigh skin infection that he said was MRSA, a contagious and antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria. Joey Votto did the damage – an RBI double in the first inning and a two-run home run in the sixth.
Yasmani Grandal was scratched before the game with a sore left shoulder, but is expected to return on Friday in the second game of the series.
Dodgers: LHP Brett Anderson (6-7, 3.43) leads the majors with a 66.1 ground-ball percentage, inducing 263 grounders this season.
