Reds trade Chapman to Yankees
The Yankees added another late-inning reliever to an already frightening bullpen, but Chapman comes with personal questions yet to be answered.
Jack Curry of YES Network first reported that the Reds were close to sending Aroldis Chapman to the New York Yankees. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal says the deal is done, although there’s no word yet on what the Yankees will send to the Reds in the trade.
The Yankees are trading minor leaguers Caleb Cotham, Rookie Davis, Eric Jagielo and Tony Renda for Chapman.
The Dodgers had reportedly almost completed a deal for Chapman earlier in the offseason until news leaked that he allegedly choked his girlfriend and fired several shots from a gun in his garage, prompting a police response.
Chapman, 27, saved 33 games in 36 chances for Cincinnati in 2015.
Chapman was not arrested, though more than a dozen officers were dispatched to the scene.
If the Yankees do keep Miller around, that would give them Chapman, Miller, and Dellin Betances in whatever late-inning roles they are needed.
