Reds wait on Lovren injury
Brendan Rodgers has admitted his job as Liverpool manager is on the line and said he will do whatever he can to turn around the club’s fortunes.
Like Rodgers, Villa manager Tim Sherwood finds himself in the spotlight with his side without a win in the Premier League since a victory at Bournemouth on the opening day of the season.
The Reds have made a awful start to their season and are now on a winless streak of four games in the Premier League, which has ramped up the pressure on Rodgers.
Liverpool may have won their Capital One Cup tie against Carlisle United on Wednesday, but Brendan Rodgers will have felt far from a victor.
Liverpool have been swift to deny reports that former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has been approached to take charge. You need to be at your best every day. If you’re not winning, that will intensify. “I’m sure they will not be lacking from here until next year”, Ancelotti said as quoted by Illinois Giornale via BBC Sports. That is part and parcel of the game.
“I have regular contact with the owners and relationship has always been strong”. I’m a much better manager than three years ago.
“I am never complacent enough to think (my job is not under threat)”.
“No chance, no”, said Rodgers. I’ve got an inherent belief in what I do but I don’t shy away from the fact that you need to get results and be performing well to try and stay and work. One win and you’re back in and around the top four.
“All three will obviously not be available for the weekend”, Rodgers explained at his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Aston Villa on Saturday. But the Northern Irishman insists he is enjoying the pressure of the job and believes this tricky period will help him in the long run.
“I know to get that you’re looking at 20-odd years but I’m realistic, I’ve got realism in my professional life, to know that I might have another five or six jobs in order to that”.
“And Dejan Lovren will be out for probably a few weeks with his ligament injury”.
Rodgers is also without Jordan Henderson after the captain recently underwent surgery for a broken metatarsal, being ruled out for about eight weeks.
‘I’m a much better manager now’

Rodgers could be without the services of midfielder Roberto Firmino and defender Dejan Lovren, who were both withdrawn with injuries against Carlisle.
