Redskins’ Breeland suspended for 1 game by NFL
In the morning, news came out that he was going to be suspended for the first game of the season, a punishment stemming from an arrest for marijuana possession past year.
It was not immediately known how badly hurt Breeland might have been. Breeland dropped into coverage against wide receiver Quinton Dunbar and as the two broke on the ball, Breeland tumbled to the ground and rolled over to his back, grabbing his right leg.
Breeland stayed down on the field for several minutes, surrounded by teammates.
Breeland eventually was helped to a cart, and was taken inside for further evaluation.
Breeland, 23, was cited for possession of marijuana in August 2014 on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. The Redskins have not yet updated his injury status.
He played in 15 games and made two interceptions last season for the Redskins, who went 4-12 and finished last in the NFC East for the sixth time in seven years.
The Redskins have not been officially notified of the suspension, which was reported earlier Friday by the NFL Network.
