Redskins down Eagles to punch playoff ticket
Although Washington holds a one-game lead over Philadelphia and the New York Giants, the Eagles can win the NFC East with victories in their last two games.
“It was just a matter of putting it all together”, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said.
One can make a pretty good argument that the reason the Eagles are stinking up the joint on defense is because they just don’t have enough talent.
After consecutive 10-win seasons in Kelly’s first two years, the Eagles had lofty aspirations.
It clearly didn’t work out. Bradford was aware of Kelly’s comments, but said there have not yet been any contract discussions.
“I don’t think anybody in this organization can really look at themselves and feel like they’ve done really well this year”, safety Malcolm Jenkins said. This is the same Chip Kelly who, after all, cleaned house with the departures of skilled talents such as DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy.
Murray fumbled a pitch from quarterback Sam Bradford and Washington safety DeAngelo Hall scooped the ball up and scampered 17 yards for a score and a 30-17 advantage. Murray and Alonso have been busts.
“It’s all on my shoulders”, Eagles coach Chip Kelly said. After winning just seven games combined the past two seasons, the expectations were rather low this season.
Redskins mania is gripping the D.C. area after the huge win Saturday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I’ve been down this road (before) where you have seasons that are disappointing and everybody is looking for the blame game”. It’s become a rallying cry for Washington and its fans, who continued the chant for several minutes after the game. They came away with nothing on their first drive of the second half, which was a bad sign, but then they held the Eagles to nothing. He converted three third-down passes on the series after Jaylen Watkins dropped an interception. And in fairness, it wasn’t all on Ertz – midway through the second quarter Bradford had Ertz about as wide open as any player in National Football League history has ever been… and overthrew him. It would’ve been a 60-yard TD. Kicker Caleb Sturgis did his part as well, kicking the lone field goal attempt he was asked to convert, from 34 yards, and kicking all three of his extra-point attempts for six total points.
Time expired, and the Redskins went into the locker room at halftime having wasted a chance at three points. Cousins connected with Reed over the middle on a 22-yard scoring pass to cut it to 7-6.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marcus Easley was carted off the field with a left knee injury during the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys and did not return. With 8:55 to play, Garcon sent most of the initially hopeful crowd out the doors with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins (31-for 46, 365 yards). He had his moments – he had a nice 18 yard grab earlier in the game – but that was about it. He finished the day with only one other catch for 17 yards. It’s not as if he played a starring role with four catches for 40 yards.
