Redskins GM sees positives from RGIII in Cleveland game
DeAngelo Hall watched the Washington Redskins’ final training camp practice from the sideline Monday, resting the injured toe on his left foot.
Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has revealed that he is pleased with the progress quarterback Robert Griffin III is making in pre-season. “You want to get, obviously, better fundamentally, and get your scheme taught and find out your best players”.
The Redskins president was equally upbeat about the team’s progress on the field, saying that general manager Scot McCloughan was “doing exactly what we had hoped” by adding quality football players.
Tackle Morgan Moses joins fans screaming for quarterback Robert Griffin III to come and sign autographs during fan appreciation day on August 15. The Redskins finished last in the NFC East for the sixth time in seven years. “I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league and I have to go out and show that”, he said.
The Redskins face the Miami Dolphins in their season opener on September 13.
On SI Now, Sports Illustrated senior writer Don Banks explains why Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will start sometime this season despite starting second on the depth chart.
Gruden also said Brun likely is more versatile than other prospects at that position, possessing an ability to both block and catch.
“Pierre will make that play 99 times out of 100”, Gruden said.
But Gruden ruled out receivers DeSean Jackson (shoulder) and Jamison Crowder (hamstring) for Thursday.
Gruden added a moment later: “We’ve just got to continue to work with him and be positive and go from there”.
“There’s a lot of circumstances you can’t control, like the injuries”. Despite these shortcomings, Gruden was impressed by the way Griffin managed the offense and thought he looked more confident in the pocket. Dixon and Hamm were on the Redskins’ practice squad last season; Mahina is an undrafted free agent. “That’s the one thing you hate to have happen, but every team goes through it. It’s a physical day out here and you’re going to have those”.
“How far away are we from winning?”
