Redskins rally for late score to top Philadelphia
It’s a season that now has them sitting at 1-3 following Sunday’s 23-20 loss at FedEx Field in front of 74,767 fans, a lot of whom were wearing Eagles jerseys. The number one factor that was going to make or break the season still remains as quarterback Sam Bradford was unimpressive, which is the biggest storyline leading to the matchup against the Redskins.
“That’s been exactly what stalled out our offense from the beginning all the way through these first four games”, Kelce said. “He’s (Cousins) started quite a bit coming into the season and it’s always been the same thing every time he plays”. We’re keeping it close, having the ability to win in the fourth.
“Coach Gruden last night challenged us to be resilient and and as we know these game come down to the last of couple of minutes”, Cousins said.
Kirk Cousins still has thrown for more interceptions than touchdown passes in the NFL.
The Eagles took a 20-16 lead after linebacker Brandon Graham stripped tight end Jordan Reed after a catch and linebacker Jordan Hicks recovered at the Philadelphia 42.
That the Eagles were in position to win the game given how they played in the first half is miraculous (and obviously a credit to the defense).
If Bradford can continue his growth on deep passes, he’ll pull the Eagles back toward respectability. Watch him pick Carson Palmer with a helmet grab that might not be repeated.
“That final drive, I wasn’t capable of doing that when I came into the league as a rookie”, Cousins said. He admitted afterward he’s frustrated, both with his lack of production and the team’s record. In the last three games that he played, Murray carried 29 times for only 47 yards.
“Of course [you’re frustrated]”, Murray said. “I lined up and I thought I was legal and made communication but I’ve got to make sure the ref understands”. Robert Griffin III was back on the field for the Redskins after Colt McCoy had a neck injury after Week 15, and Mark Sanchez led the Eagles. He fired a 45-yard strike to Agholor, taking the ball down to Washington’s 25.
The first half was a comedy of errors, many of them by the Eagles. Symbolic of the way things are going for coach Chip Kelly’s much-ballyhooed system this season, though, Agholor couldn’t handle a pitch from Ryan Mathews on a reverse on the very next play, resulting in a fumble. “The exchange wasn’t there”.
But it was what the team did on the next few possessions that might eventually help seal Kelly’s fate. Kicker Dustin Hopkins’ extra point put the Redskins up 23-20 with 26 seconds left in the game.
Well guess what? After four games the Redskins already have two wins under their belt. “But I think we saw something that we could take advantage of this week”.
It should be noted that Cousins is no stranger to last-second heroics as a quarterback.
After a penalty moved the ball to the Redskins’ 39, Bradford hit wide receiver Miles Austin behind the coverage for the go-ahead touchdown less than a minute into the fourth quarter.
Today, he got his wish in a huge way. “I think we’ll all watch film and get better”. It’s that they need to sustain drives and get first downs instead of wasting opportunities with drops and penalties.
