Redskins’ Robert Griffin III: ‘I’m the best quarterback in the league’
But a new general manager is running the show now, and with Young’s contract up at the end of the season, his time with the Washington Redskins could soon come to an end.
Normally, the 12th-year cornerback wouldn’t mind sitting out a session in the stifling heat of August, with the regular season still almost a full month away. RGIII must’ve hit his head and now thinks he’s Aaron Rodgers.
I thought Griffin did some good things on the field this past week, but we’ll have to see how he progresses and during their regular season dress rehearsal during their third preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.
“I’m not going there”, McCloughan said. “But I have a great personnel staff and they’re on it. That’s one of the positions when we got done with the draft, we’ve tried to facilitate and make sure it goes forward”.
“This is probably the first training camp where I came in wanting to work”, Hall cracked. Learned a lot of football.
“Robert had some fundamental flaws”, Gruden said then. “You want to get, obviously, better fundamentally, and get your scheme taught and find out your best players”. His “best quarterback” lines are mocked and torn down by precedent, causing Griffin to further insulate himself with more confidence, resulting in a never-ending cycle of self-mythologizing.
Three seasons of experience have altered his perspective on life in the NFL, as well. Just one example: Gruden’s unforgiving assessment after a loss to Tampa Bay dropped Washington to 3-7 along the way to 4-12. “We have a depth chart… that means pretty much nothing”. He said he’s the best because he works for that every day.
The GM was asked about the possibility of bringing back former Redskins tight end Chris Cooley, who hasn’t played in the NFL since he had one catch in 2012 and is now a 33-year-old radio host.
But Gruden ruled out receivers DeSean Jackson (shoulder) and Jamison Crowder (hamstring) for Thursday.
“There’s a lot of circumstances you can’t control, like the injuries”.
“There’s guys in this league that have done way more than me”.
