Redskins to Host Former Saints OLB Junior Galette
In addition, the Saints and the NFL were made aware of a 2013 video that surfaced in July that allegedly shows Galette striking a woman with a belt during a group scuffle on a beach that was recorded by an onlooker.
Not only does Junior Galette’s release leave the Saints with tons of dead money for this season and next, but it also leaves them with one huge dead space along the defensive front seven.
The hits keep on coming for former New Orleans Saints outside linebacker Junior Galette who can’t seem to shake controversy.
The traffic violations are the latest in a series of incidents that helped lead the Saints to release their embattled pass-rusher earlier this week. “Obviously, we’d prefer – and I think it’d be in his best interest to not to let that emotion come out publicly, but it is what it is”. The Saints signed Galette last year before the team needed to do so again and now they are paying the price for it. Teams are heading into training camp and with most rosters set, Galette could wait a little bit before signing a deal with another club. It’s unfortunate what happened and we’ve just got to move forward from that.
Another anvil hanging over Galette, as well as his potential status with other teams, is that there is no official word on if he’ll face a suspension or not for either the domestic case he was involved in or the infamous video. The Redskins also view the financial aspect as favorable to them because commitment to Galette would be minimal since the Saints remain on the hook for the guaranteed portion of his salary. “It became a decision about the team” Payton explained.
Asked to elaborate, Payton responded, “I’m being specific when I say it’s best for the team….” I can rattle off more issues than the venue of training camp as to why the Saints struggled last season. “We were pulling for him as much as anything because he does have a presence and he’s so well respected”. “You gotta be careful you don’t start operating on the wrong parts”, Payton said.
Still, it appears Williams is now in line for some significant snaps in a rotation that could also include third-year pro John Jenkins. The collective bargaining agreement prevents teams from putting the players in pads right away, so the Saints will be in shorts & helmets (shells) for the first three practices.
