Reem Al Hashimi opens UAE-India Business Forum in Delhi

The 11 Indian nationals under detention in the UAE and the two already deported to Kerala were planning to travel, one by one, to Syria, possibly via Yemen or Turkey, and were in the process of organizing funds and logistics, emirates authorities suspect.

“India and the UAE will sign an agreement later in the day for setting up a joint business council for stronger economic ties and growth of bilateral business”, said Secretary, East, Anil Wadhwa.

According to UBC President Mahesh Sachdev, the council intends to make a difference by helping stakeholders actually implement the ambitious targets such as Dollars 75 billion of the UAE investment in Indian infrastructure and 60 per cent increase in bilateral trade.

Sitharaman’s visit will be followed up soon after by a visit to New Delhi by her UAE counterpart in a bid to maintain the momentum imparted to bilateral ties by the visit to the Gulf Emirate last month by Modi.

He also said the UAE has come out in support of early finalisation of Indian-proposed Comprehensive Convention on worldwide Terrorism (CCIT) at the United Nations and has assured that it will find “ways and means” to encourage other countries to reach a consensus.

Parrikar said he looked forward to UAE’s participation in global Fleet Review in India in February next year.

During his visit, Shaikh Abdullah met a number of senior officials and co-chaired the Meeting of the Joint Commission with Sushma Swaraj, India’s External Affairs Minister.

UAE has an important place in India’s energy security as the sixth largest import-source of crude oil in 2014-15.

“We are determined to attract more investment into India in various sectors”.
