References to ‘Nexus Protect’ appear on the Google Store
Android Police has stumbled upon numerous references to “Nexus Protect” on the Play Store, hinting that the search giant might be prepping itself to launch such a program.
Something unusual occurred over the weekend over at the Google Store.
Some crafty users have discovered some code in the Google Store’s source code which is to be displayed as a Toast-style warning pop-up, one that references something called “Nexus Project” and though we’re not quite sure what it is, it could very well be some sort of extended care plan for Nexus devices.
Clearly, Google is implementing some kind of limitation on the phones you’re ordering when purchasing Nexus Protect.
Apple offers AppleCare and AppleCare+ as extended warranties for all its devices, including its iPhones, iPads and Macs.
It is worth noting that the text “Nexus Protect” looks like it is enabled for all hardware listings in the Google Store. Listings for Chromebooks, Android Wear smartwatches and Android TV set-top boxes have this text even the ones that aren’t made by Google. The LG Nexus 5 2015 and the Huawei Nexus 6 are purported to be released on the 29th of September. However, if we look at the stock Android 5.1 Nexus images from Google, then there is no such thing as Android Pay, but with the Android 6.0 the company has introduced it. Users are probably going to make the payments using the NFC installed in the smartphone.
That said, it is important to keep in mind that Google has not made any official announcements about what Nexus Protect might be, and it is also possible that the firm decide not to launch whatever it might be after all.
