Regis Philbin Joins ‘Today’ as Contributor
Philbin, the veteran talk-show host, has been named a contributor to the fourth hour of “Today”, a looser affair than the program’s better-watched first two hours that is hosted by Gifford and Hoda Kotb.
Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford are getting back together – again. With Kelly and Michael for 15 years from 1985 to 2000. Philbin, 83, will appear on Today’s fourth hour once a month going forward.
“Regis brings his legendary charm and humour each time he visits Today”, said Today co-exec producer Tammy Filler in a statement.
The announcement was made on Thursday’s episode of Today, with Philbin acting as a bartender and pouring drinks for Gifford and Kotb from a magnum bottle of champagne before following the ladies into the studio. “His energy is infectious, and when Regis is around, you never know what will happen”. Philbin was well-loved on the show and he went on to earn 24 Daytime Emmy nominations, six of which he won, and he also took home a Lifetime Achievement Award. NBC said that in his new role he will be on about once a month.
Regis Philbin – who has been called the hardest-working man in show business – is back on the job.
