Relevant Redskins use ‘bulletin board’ ahead of Cowboys game
Let’s take a look at some things that could show up in the Dallas game plan as they attempt to take down Washington on Monday night.
Overall, Washington ranks 22nd in defense and 20th in scoring defense (24.3 points per game). He’s trying to play every game for the second consecutive season but posted 11 yards on 10 carries last week coming off of 29-129 the previous game and 103 carries in November. Dallas slinks to the cellar of the NFC East and the Redskins make more headway toward a playoff spot behind a confident Kirk Cousins.
Even though the combined record of Washington and Dallas is a woeful 8-14, both teams can win the division. When Tuesday morning arrives, expect the Cowboys to have renewed hope in their season as they will once again feel as though they have a quarterback they can win with. Technically, all four teams could win the NFC East. That is now the only division in football that can make that claim entering Week 13.
-Cornerback Byron Jones is back to starting at safety after starting at cornerback the past two games with Morris Claiborne injured.
The Cowboys (3-8) are two games back with five to play, and can begin gaining ground in the division on national television Monday night against the division-leading Washington Redskins (5-6). It hasn’t all been his fault after the Cowboys lost seven straight without Tony Romo and put forth an offense that ranks among the worst in the league.
On the season, the Dallas Cowboys average 216.1 yards in passing and 115.3 yards in rushing. They blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown to win on the final play of the game. They’ve held four opponents to 17 points or less, but five teams have scored at least 30 points on Washington.
The Redskins offense features a few dynamic weapons to go along with Cousins, and when they are clicking they can be hard to stop. He’s had four games with a passer rating of more than 110.0, and the Redskins have won each of those games.
Earlier in the first quarter, one of Cousins’ passes for Jackson was almost intercepted by cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who would have had nothing but open field in front of him. The teams confidence level has to be higher following the Giants loss to the Jets. Will Compton has played well in place of Robinson over the past two weeks but Mason Foster will get his first start of the season. Cassel’s one good game came against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Cowboys managed to lose in overtime. With a favorable schedule facing them over the last month of the season, the conditions are ripe for Washington to storm their way into the postseason.
It might also help Cassel’s cause that Dez Bryant fully participated in practice for the first time since returning from his broken foot in Cassel’s first game under center. The wide receiver just completed his first full practice since Week 1.
Jason Hatcher would love to have a great game against his former team, but he and Terrance Knighton will need to bring their best efforts because they are up against the dominating trio of Travis Frederick, La’el Collins and Zack Martin.
