Reliance’s revolutionary announcement, era of paying for voice call is ‘ending’
This poses a major roadblock for other players in the telecom sector who are now in fear of losing their valuable customer base.
Mukesh Ambani the chairman of Reliance Industry Limited (RIL) revealed the details about revolutionary product Reliance Jio. Voice calls will be free to any network across the country with no roaming charges.
Reliance Jio 4G became a matter of key concern for its competitors to reduce the prices for voice calls and data services. “There could have been no better day than the Teacher’s Day to unleash the new era of communication for the Indian users, leading to the digital literacy and education in the country”, said Thomas George, Senior Vice President and Head, CMR. Ambani said in March that Jio would offer mobile broadband speeds that are 40 to 80 times faster than current average speeds and the network has been created to provide 10 gigabytes of monthly data for every user.
This plan will give you 0.75 GB of 4G data and unlimited data at night and 1.5 GB data Wi-Fi data.
With this, Jio’s line-up of ten plans has been completed. He said that Jio tariff offers the lowest data rates in the world and the data plans will be Rs50/GB or 5 paise per MB. Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea all make most of their revenues from voice calls.
The promise of a never before pricing for data and free voice calls, something the Indian market hasn’t witnessed before, had already piqued user’s interest.
Reliance, which has been giving freebies for the past few months as part of network testing, did not say when it would start billing customers. “In the last week alone, Jio customers suffered over five crore call failures to other networks because of insufficient interconnect capacity provided by incumbents”.
Jio will offer only fourth-generation services in India.
India officially has a new 4G LTE network that is offering up free voice calling forever thanks to India’s biggest industrial house. However, after hearing those offers from the Reliance company most of the customers who are using the top network services want to switch to the Jio 4G.
He also announced a 25 per cent more data package for students, 1 million Wi-Fi hot-spots across the country, best-ever worldwide calling rates, unlimited subscription to Jio app and special solutions for enterprises. Add that to the perks of being young and educated. Reliance Jio connections can soon be activated in a matter of minutes with e-KYC, which allows users to walk out of a Reliance store with a working Jio SIM card. Hence, the company is offering LYF smartphones starting as low as Rs. 3,000 and also hotspot devices such as JioFi for just Rs. 2,000.
