Reluctant Republicans fall in line behind Donald Trump
As researchers at the financial firm Nomura pointed out in a note to investors this week, the “issues” section of Trump’s website lists only seven topics, and his plans total just 9,000 words.
Police stood their ground at first but after about 90 minutes moved into the remaining crowd to break it up and make arrests.
Why couldn’t Paul Ryan do something to discredit the GOP ticket and make it easier to elect Hillary Clinton so we can get the president we want?
“But with his tepid, halfhearted endorsement today, Ryan has backed away from his own criticisms of Trump’s unsafe, divisive campaign, bowed down, kissed the ring, and conceded that Trump is the leader of the Republican Party”.
Rep. Paul Ryan made that statement in a column submitted Thursday for publication in The Gazette, his hometown newspaper.
Ryan had told The Associated Press that he needed time to get to know the billionaire businessman before he could support him. “I think the American people would also like to see him fill in the blanks”.
With a vacancy on the Supreme Court, and the Republican legislative agenda stalled in Congress, Ryan says the party can not afford another resounding defeat in the general election.
“At some point Donald Trump needs to take responsibility for the irresponsible behaviour of his campaign”, Mr Liccardo said.
The speaker had criticized the Republican candidate several times, including Trump’s proposal in December to temporarily ban all Muslims from entering the United States because of national security concerns.
It was a win for the cynics, who’ve been saying all along that Ryan would eventually endorse Trump.
“And so, he clearly says and does things I don’t agree with, and I’ve had to speak up on time to time when that has occurred, and I’l continue to do that if that’s necessary”, Ryan continued.
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper Thursday, McConnell admitted he does worry that Trump could marginalize Republicans with Latino voters in the same way Goldwater’s opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 set Republicans back with black voters. Politics is politics, after all, and Republicans were sure to line up behind Trump the same way Democrats will soon line up behind Hillary Clinton.
Many observers were surprised last month when Ryan said he couldn’t yet endorse Trump. “Like every one of my colleagues on the bench, I have a history and a heritage, but neither interferes with my ability to administer impartial justice”, Borman said.
Just a day after House Speaker Paul Ryan endorsed Donald Trump, he turned around and blasted the presumptive Republican nominee for attacking the judge overseeing the Trump University lawsuit.
But this week was different in one very big way.
Trump has since walked back on his remarks and asked for Martinez’s endorsement.
This remarkable record raises the question of whether anything could permanently blemish Teflon Paul Ryan’s reputation for commitment to principle, decency, and sound fiscal policy.
Ryan, the nation’s highest-ranking Republican, isn’t promising to help his party’s presumptive presidential nominee on the campaign trail.
“Through these conversations, I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives”.
