Remote-Controlled Star Wars R2-D2 Mini-Fridge
While the inaugural demo of the AQUA R2-D2 was in Japanese, you can check out the recorded presentation of the mini-fridge (or, in this case, mini-fridges) in the video below.
Created by Haier Asia, a new remote-control mini-fridge features the beloved droid complete with a rotating head, sound effects and the ability to keep your beverages at a cool, Hoth-like temperature. Aside from it its crisp holographic projector, the droid is capable of making similar beeps and boops, as well as coming up with whizzing lights.
But now that the R2-D2 mini fridge is officially available for pre-order, the harsh truth about its price tag is a hard pill to swallow. Haier is charging 998,000 yen for the appliance, which TechRadar notes is just north of $8,200 Dollars before factoring in shipping, tax, and import fees.
The lifestyle of a hardcore Star Wars fan isn’t cheap. As of now, it is available for preorder, with the first shipments due out in December 2015. But if you’re a Star Wars fanatic who’s earning enough real-life Republic Dataries to drop racks on home arcades and movie memorabilia, then you should be allowed to kick back and treat yourself once in a while, preferably with an ice-cold beer from an R2-D2 mini-fridge. The fridges are expected to be released by December, so perhaps consider having one hold your spot in line once Episode VII hits theaters.
