Rene Angelil Celine Dion’s Husband Dies

People magazine is reporting that Celine Dion’s husband, Rene Angelil, has died after a long battle with cancer.

We’ve learned Celine has already cancelled the 2 shows she was scheduled to do at Caesars Palace this weekend. She returned to her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in August after taking a year off to care for her husband.

Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil has died aged 73 after a battle with throat cancer, his representative has confirmed.

Angélil stepped down as Dion’s manager in 2014, turning her career over to a friend of the couple but he remained involved in business decisions. He became the love of Dion’s life and the linchpin for her huge success, guiding her career for most of her life. Last year, his health got so bad she had to scrap her Las Vegas shows to rush to his bedside.

Angelil was first diagnosed with cancer in 1999, and in September 2015, Celine revealed that her husband’s cancer was terminal. Angelil, who had been sick with throat cancer for more than two years, and his wife were prepared for his death.

It’s still unclear if Celine Dion was by Rene Angelil’s side when he died. Sometimes he just wants me to enter into a different place with him. “I understand. Talk to me about it.'” she said.

René leaves behind the couple’s 14-year-old son René-Charles, and four-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, as well as three grown-up children from two previous marriages.
