Renowned Bollywood lyricist, Urdu poet Nida Fazli dead
His soulful ghazals include the evergreen “Kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahan nahin milta” (“Ahista, Ahista”), “Tu is tarha se meri zindagime shamil hai” (“Aat To Aise Na The”), “Hoshwalon ko khabar kya” (“Sarfarosh”), “Aa bhi jaa“, (“Sur”).
She wrote – Aaj mashhoor Shayar Nida Fazli sahab ka inteqal hua is baat mujhe bahut dukh hai.
Fazli’s daughter confirmed the poet’s demise. Nida Fazli wrote many columns for BBC Hindi website related to contemporary literature.
Popularly known as Nida Fazli, the writer’s original name was Muqtida Hasan Nida Fazli whose father was also an Urdu poet.
Delhi-based historian Irfan Habib remembers Nida Fazli as a young promising poet from Mumbai, who he had invited to a student’s union mushaira in Meerut in 1974.

After partition, Fazli’s parents moved to Pakistan, but he made a decision to stay in India i.e. where his heart was. In a condolences message, Mr. Jaitley said his death is a loss to Hindi and Urdu poetry. He had also written lyrics for 10 films. The composition “Koi Akelaa Kahaan” is another popular composition sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy.
Fazli was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 1998 and conferred with the Padma Shri in 2013.
