Republicans of all stripes are bracing for battle over House Republicans’ plan to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a system of tax credits, with the newly introduced House bill at the epicenter of the fight. The plan allows insurance companies to charge higher rates if a person has a significant lapse in coverage.
Republicans have promised to repeal the ACA since it passed in 2009, but a full repeal is not now the plan as many moderate Republicans and Democrats would starkly oppose it.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer falsely stated that the healthcare bill from House Speaker Paul Ryan represents what will eventually be a full repeal of Obamacare.

AARP and its allies are bombarding congressional offices with objections as two House committees plan to vote on the Republicans’ bill this week.
“There is no doubt there are many flaws within the Affordable Care Act that need to be corrected, but we’re not being really given that opportunity”, Doggett said. The bill, if passed, would remove federal funding for Planned Parenthood as many Republican legislators oppose the idea that taxpayer money supports abortion.
While penalties for those who don’t buy health insurance would be scrapped, those who let their coverage lapse could see their premiums raised by 30% by insurers.
