Rep. Thompson will not vote in favor of proposed GOP healthcare bill
Mr Trump said on Friday he is “100 per cent in favour” of the replacement health care measure, and described Obamacare as a “disaster”.
“This is a big deal”.
In agreement was Donna Friedsam, the health policy programs director for the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. “In 2016, the 21 states that expanded Medicaid shared in $72 billion in federal funding”.
President Donald Trump and many congressional Republicans campaigned on repealing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and replacing it with a new plan to overhaul the nation’s health care system.
He added, “CBO also finds that this legislation will provide massive tax relief, dramatically reduce the deficit, and make the most fundamental entitlement reform in more than a generation”.
Less well understood, though, is the impact the law would have on some of the country’s most vulnerable individuals: Medicaid recipients with mental illness, addiction problems, and even dementia. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), a physician who previously offered a replacement bill for the Affordable Care Act, said.
But that would have to be paid for with tax dollars, just as Obamacare is, just as a “Medicaid for Everyone” single-payer plan would. But because it’s the fifth-wealthiest state, the feds only cover about half the costs. By 2020, the federal share of the expansion gradually phases down to 90 percent, with Colorado covering 10 percent. He said there are about as many people processing bills as there are hospital beds.
Illinois’ health care exchange has not been the success Obamacare proponents were hoping for. “Republicans will come together and save the day”. Medicaid spending now accounts for about a third of the state’s $28.5 billion budget, Lynne said.
And President Trump says “We’re going to arbitrate, we’re going to all get together, [and] we’re going to get something done”.
EXPLAINER:What does the Republican bill do?
“We think what it does is give a lot of handouts to drug companies and insurance companies”, she said.
Meadows believes if states are given the option to choose between per capita caps and block grants, nearly all of them will go with block grants. The rising cost of premiums and co-pays far outpaced inflation.
In the proposed GOP Healthcare bill, tax credits determined by age and geography substitute for the income related subsidies in Obamacare. I have met with the House leadership and committees of jurisdiction throughout the week to express these concerns and advocate for additional changes to the bill.
