Reports say Mitt Romney likely to be Trump’s secretary of state
Top aide Kellyanne Conway says she’ll support whomever US President-elect Donald Trump nominates for Secretary of State, but it appears she can not help lobbying against Mitt Romney.
Conway said she had received a “deluge” of concern from people who questioned the loyalty of Romney, a former MA governor who assailed Trump as a “phony” during the presidential campaign.
“I think the vast majority of Trump supporters will initially be very unhappy and will be reminded of the things Romney said”, Gingrich added.
Mike Huckabee, Sean Hannity, and even former Trump campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, have made public statements against the idea.
With advisers locked in an intense debate over Romney and Giuliani, a third contender for secretary of state has surfaced.
A rift on President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team over who will serve as his secretary of state has gone public, leaving open the future national security role until differences can be resolved.
They “flew around the world less”, Conway wrote, “counseled POTUS close to home more”. It also didn’t help that the former NY mayor mouthed off to The Wall Street Journal that he would be a better pick than John Bolton. It is unclear when a selection will be announced. Gingrich said Tuesday that Romney’s views may not be in line with Trump’s vision for foreign policy.
The New York Times also pointed out that Conway defended her tweet by pointing out that the grass-roots supporters for Trump seem most outraged “not against something he said, but something he may do”.
But the former MA governor now appears willing to set aside his distaste for Trump.
“He attacked him on a personal level about his character, integrity and honor”. “And yes, it is a sort of team of rivals concept if you were to go toward the Gov. Romney concept, but I think that should tell all Americans” that Trump is committed to uniting the country in the wake of the fractious election, Priebus told Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday”.
Despite what the majority of the mainstream media and most pollsters predicted, Donald Trump was able to pull off one of the biggest upsets in modern political history. Mr. Trump, who is always hard to read and is capable of changing his mind at any minute, has also praised Mr. Giuliani in recent conversations with acquaintances.
You’ve probably heard by now that Donald Trump is seriously considering making Mitt Romney his secretary of state.
Gingrich, on the other hand, called Romney Trump’s “most vicious and most explicit opponent all through the campaign on the Republican side”.
