Republican candidates compete with Trump on immigration
The ten top-polling Republican Presidential candidates participated in the first GOP-sanctioned debate.
Donald Trump has never shied away from controversy.
DONALD TRUMP: She gets out, and she starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions.
A variety of Republican presidential candidates have been speaking at the Red State gathering in Atlanta and Trump was scheduled for a prominent appearance.
Trump said Kelly “bombed” at the debate and retweeted a follower who called her a “bimbo”. It was immediately apparent that classic Trump showed up to the debate – someone who pushes the boundaries in everything he does, including running for the White House.
Donald Trump has unloaded on Fox News journalist Megyn Kelly.
A campaign spokeswoman said on Saturday that Trump had fired senior political adviser Roger Stone, the second firing of a senior staffer over the past week. “I do say this… if you’re going to do that to me I think it’s great, but you have to do it to everybody else or ease it up”. “But I wouldn’t do that”.
Luntz thought this debate would propel Trump even more in the national polls.
“You know, some of the statements she made about the women, I don’t recognize those words whatsoever”, Trump said on ABC’s “Good Morning America“.
His brawling style set the tone for others, including New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who mixed it up over government surveillance. Kelly also pointed out Trump’s past support for Democrats and asked, “when did you become a Republican?” “Because somebody doesn’t think the way I do, doesn’t mean that I can’t care about them or can’t love them“, Kasich said, to much applause, during the debate.
On Twitter, she wrote: “I stand with @megynkelly” and “Mr. Trump: There. Is”. To many viewers who expressed opinions on social media, it seemed as though Kelly wasn’t the only one of the three Fox News questioners to target the GOP front-runner.
One of the most-replayed clips from the evening is an exchange between Trump and Kelly over Trump’s use of demeaning language to describe women with whom he disagrees.
At the end of the debate, God used Facebook video to ask the candidates whether they hear him. I think she’s a bad person… “Their performance was outstanding”.
As the dust settles following the first big debate of the 2016 presidential contest, the conversation among pundits and politics watchers now moves to what effect, if any, it could have on candidates’ standings. The other candidates competed in a forum that began at 5 p.m. ET to an audience of one-quarter the size.
