Republican leaders struggle to find support for GOP health bill
Unfortunately the GOP plan is worse than “Obamacare” (the ACA) for most working and middle class families.
The ACA mandate is created to have insurance cover more of those costs by forcing more people – ideally, those who are young and healthy – into the market.
Top congressional Democrats fiercely denounced the Republican-backed American Health Care Act on Tuesday, a day after the Congressional Budget Office predicted that the GOP plan would leave more than 14 million Americans without health insurance by 2018, and by 2026, additional 24 million more would be uninsured.
In almost 1,500 counties across the country, such individuals stand to lose more than $6,000 a year in federal insurance subsidies; 90 per cent of such counties backed Mr Trump, the newspaper’s investigation showed. As a result, hospital, doctor and nursing associations had no input into the plan. Of those who think the bill will lower costs, 46 percent are Republicans. Their rejection was joined by the American Nurses Association.
Americans seemed nearly sentimental when they were asked about Obamacare in February, when 54 percent approved of it, an increase from previous surveys. “We’re going to do our thing, and pass it”, he told reporters. That number would grow to 24 million by 2026.
The bill starts to phase out the generous federal funding for states that expanded Medicaid under Obamacare. “The bill’s consequences for South Florida are clear: too many of my constituents will lose insurance and there will be less funds to help the poor and elderly with their healthcare”. Again, this will result in less coverage for the 73 million Americans now receiving Medicaid assistance.
The bill, The American Health Care Act, would slice $337 billion off the Federal deficit within 10 years. Trump said that the GOP proposal will push health insurance costs “down, down, down”, adding that “more competition and less regulation will finally bring down the cost of care” within one or two years.
Trumpcare will cut taxes on the wealthy and companies, such as medical equipment companies, that profit from the health care industry in America.
A report from the Kaiser Family Foundation found that Americans at retirement age living on $15,000 annual incomes could lose almost $5,900 in tax credits per year tp help pay for coverage under the proposed health plan. If the ACA remained, 28 million would be uninsured, the CBO said.
The Republican bill allows insurers to charge older Americans up to five times more than younger ones.
The GOP’s refundable tax credits wouldn’t factor in cost, however.
