Republican presidential candidates clash in Iowa
That could make his endorsement doubly valuable for Rubio, as Gowdy can highlight the Benghazi attacks – a key issue that Republicans believe has already damaged Clinton – on the trail.
Gowdy chairs the House Republican-led Select Committee on Benghazi, which grilled former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the attack for 11 hours, much of which was broadcast live on cable news.
The Business Insider wrote that Trump rapped Gowdy in an interview Sunday, saying, “His hearings were a disaster”.
U.S. Representative Trey Gowdy has endorsed Republican Marco Rubio for the 2016 presidential nomination. And he didn’t win with those hearings. “It was a total not-good for Republicans and for the country”.
Tony Katz said on Monday’s program that enough is enough, and it’s bad strategy to lash out at a candidate because he’s not your choice, and that it’s insane to suggest that Rubio and Gowdy aren’t conservatives.
The announcement of Gowdy’s support for Rubio comes after South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham dropped out of the presidential race. But it could also be a boon for Rubio in Iowa, where Gowdy is joining him for two days of campaigning this week, lending the Florida senator considerable conservative credibility.
Trump retweeted a number of people criticizing Gowdy, including one person who called him a “loser” and another who said he “let Hillary get away with murder”.
Recent polls have Rubio in third place in Iowa, behind Sen. Ted Cruz at 18.6 percent and Trump at 35.6 percent, according to a RealClearPolitics averaging of polls.
The support was a huge boost for Rubio’s campaign, and came as Donald Trump prepares to roll out a television ad campaign in the Hawkeye State.
