Republican Scott Walker tweets that he is running for president
Expected to make an announcement next Monday, however, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker made what appeared to be an inadvertent social media confirmation Friday. Join our staff right now”, Walker stated in a tweet accompanied by a picture of him waving with the headline: “Scott Walker is running for president.
The tweet was not available on his timeline later in the afternoon, but was still viewable under his account.
As of press time, an hour and a half after the announcement tweet was posted, it had garnered an anemic 8 “favorites” and 23 retweets.
Another spokeswoman for the campaign, AshLee Strong, declined to elaborate further when reached for comment by CNN on Friday. Walker will sign his state’s budget in Waukesha on Sunday after a protracted battle in Madison. USA Today reported earlier in July that Walker led all other candidates in a survey of likely Iowa caucus participants.
Governor Scott Walker said repeatedly this spring that he would hold off on making a decision about running for president until work on the the state budget wrapped up.
