Republican Senator Threatens to Impeach Trump if He Fires Special Counsel
Rumors have been swirling around Capitol Hill this week that Trump is looking to dispose of Sessions and Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed to investigate Russia’s election interference, and any potential links between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign.
Ryan’s agenda was on full display four years ago, when he took the stage with Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez to outline a plan for open borders, a policy that would allow companies to hire as many foreign workers as they want. They say he can be “removed from office only by the personal action of the Attorney-General” and only for “good cause”, such as misconduct. Candidate Trump’s weird unwillingness to say anything negative about Vladimir Putin, plus his past business dealings in Russian Federation, raised legitimate questions about his Russian Federation policy.
Sessions was the first senator to endorse Trump during the GOP presidential primary. In other words, Mueller’s job is to dig through Trump’s dirty laundry (assuming such laundry exists).
“If Jeff Sessions is fired”, he added, “there will be holy hell to pay”.
“I don’t think it helps to throw your own people under the bus”, said GOP Rep. Tom Cole of NY. But, Butler figures, he’d still do so – in part because there are looming questions about whether or not Rosenstein might at some point need to recuse himself, given his having written a letter to Trump that was used to justify the firing of FBI Director James B. Comey – a firing that itself has now been reportedly looped into Mueller’s investigation. In his current position, he has a good friend, former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, as a key witness – despite a law that says nothing doing.
Sen. Tom Tillis, R-N.C., praised Sessions specifically for his handling of the Russian Federation probe.
CNN reported that Trump “has made 237 nominations and has just 51 confirmations, according to CNN data…”
(GRAHAM) I think maybe it other than his concession speech I think was the most important speeches the most moving speech and you know he’s my buddy so you know where I come from I can’t think of any major thing I’ve done without John being there. Grassley indicated that it will be quite some time before a replacement is confirmed by the Senate. Presidents, cabinet officers, and members of Congress all have limited terms of office, but there is no time limit set on a special counsel who wants to continue investigatng whatever he wishes. He’s angry at Sessions because he didn’t shut it down. Jeff and I have had our disagreements. Considering Trump’s billions in assets, my guess is that a persistent enough, government-financed gotcha guy could find something amiss even if Trump had given everything to Goodwill.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich introduces Donald Trump at a rally last month in Ft. “I think Sessions should stay”, Gingrich told NPR Wednesday.
Meanwhile in Alabama, three Republicans are the leading candidates vying to replace Sessions in an August 15 special election. The process for a president to remove a special counsel who is investigating him is not straightforward – rather, it involves many steps within an amorphous gray area.
So does unusual think Sessions should lose his job? “Let me state for the record now, before this scheme gains wings, Democrats will never go along with the recess appointment if that situation arises”, Schumer said.
