Republicans delay US Senate vote on ‘Obamacare’ repeal
The president confirmed reports last week that he had privately criticized the House version of the health care bill as “mean”, even though he invited Ryan and members of the House GOP leadership over to the White House Rose Garden for a celebration after it passed.
In their defense of the bill, Pence and President Donald Trump have been sure to feature OH residents in a series of events featuring “victims” of the Obamacare law targeted by congressional health care changes. “No way”, he stated, given the current progress made on passing the bill. “I want for as complete a repeal as we can get. and there’s a mixture of opinions within the caucus”. Conservatives like Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah argue that the legislation doesn’t go far enough in repealing Obamacare.
On Tuesday, in what seemed like a repeat of the developments earlier this year in the House of Representatives, Republican politicians were once again jostling to garner the required amount of votes needed to pass the new health care bill in the Senate.
Third, all of the Obamacare taxes must be repealed.
“This bill has the potential to result in a devastating cost shift of almost $3 billion to CT and could eliminate access to health care for tens-of-thousands of our residents, needlessly putting their lives at risk”, Malloy said “Particularly for some of our most vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions, premiums and costs will increase, making coverage unaffordable”.
This group of more moderate GOP senators may not like Obamacare, but they also recognize that thousands in their states have gotten insured because of it. “The American people elected us to do that, and we’re working hard to get there”. The combination of repealing the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion and lower federal funding for Medicaid would result in low-income Americans dropping off the rolls. Dean Heller, R-Nev., who faces a tough 2018 re-election race.
Sitting immediately to the left of Trump was Maine Sen.
Obamacare didn’t require people to buy insurance that they could not afford.
Most, according to the CBO, would come from people rolling off Medicaid. Senator Susan Collins of ME, in an interview with ABC, noted that securing her vote will not be a simple matter. After an initial struggle, House Republicans were able to pass what is now known as “Trumpcare”, which currently awaits a vote next month in the Senate.
What they want: More time to read, debate and tweak the bill.
“The Senate bill would cut annual household taxes by about $670 on average. I think it’s pretty obvious at this point”, Idaho Republican Jim Risch said.
“I truly appreciate the fact that we have more time”, Sen.
This group of GOP senators is up for reelection in 2020.
Trump said, “This will be great if we get it done”. The GOP needs at least two of those six Republicans to support the bill for it to have any shot of passing. Due to their appeal to independent voters, Democrats have been trying to recruit at least two dozen military veterans to challenge Republican incumbents in a bid to gain majority House control in 2018.
Moderates within the Republican party, like Sen. Joni Ernst from Iowa, Steve Daines of Montana and Dan Sullivan of Alaska are all potential Democratic targets.
