Rescue ongoing at collapsed school in Mexico City
Rescue crews and emergency services in Mexico are continuing to work tirelessly through the rubble in search of any survivors who could be trapped after the capital was struck by a powerful quake.

“The next thing we saw was a leg, and then we started to move rubble and we found a girl and two adults – a woman and a man”.
A search dog subsequently entered the wreckage and confirmed she was alive.
In the central neighbourhood of Roma, small stores remained open throughout the night and offered food to rescue workers and victims’ families.
In a Facebook video, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto explained that rescue forces are operating in the affected areas, armed with emergency equipment.

Tuesday’s massive quake struck on the anniversary of the deadly 1985 tremor that killed some 5,000 people in Mexico City.
At least 44 buildings collapsed completely in Mexico City, according to official figures, with thousands left damaged and unstable in the sprawling city, which is built on a drained lake bed.
The school was one of hundreds of buildings destroyed by the country’s deadliest natural disaster in a generation. Reports of the missing 12-year-old riveted people across the country, who watched the rescue efforts unfold live on television.
The first quake was reported to be the strongest to hit Mexico in almost 100 years, and the second, the strongest to hit Mexico City in 30 years.
