Researchers claim an Undiscovered Tomb within Great Pyramid of Giza
In the latter category are the researchers in Egypt, who might have found an undiscovered tomb inside the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Research workers in Egypt have reported they’ve discovered “thermal anomalies” in of the Great Pyramid of Giza two weeks into a project geared toward finding the famous pharaonic monument’s secrets, including potential concealed burial chambers.
A new initiative, called the Scan Pyramids project, is being undertaken by a large team that includes contributors from universities, companies and the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities. According to the project’s website, the team won’t be using any drilling for the building of a 3-D model of the Giza Plateau. Now, the researchers are of the view that the tomb might also be carrying a pharaoh himself. This could point to the existence of undiscovered chambers within the ancient construction. Egyptologist Ashraf Mohie said the anomalies detected on Khufu pyramid represent “an unprecedented discovery”.
Whether the thermal imaging will result in the discovery of such a tomb is unknown. There could be many reasons for which temperature variations are there.
The largest of the three Giza pyramids is known locally as Khufu and internationally as Cheops. The Ministry of Antiquities said it will need to investigate the various explanations for the anomalies in the coming years. Researchers say that this could be caused by many things, including internal air currents, differences in the materials used or by an opening behind the wall.
Members of the Scan Pyramids project did not claim to have found an undiscovered tomb in the Great Pyramid.
In the 1830s, Richard William Howard Vyse, a colonel in the British army, was also captivated by the idea that there could be secret chambers in the Great Pyramid.
Since 19th century, scientists and explorers have been looking out for the tomb with the Pyramid but they were unable to do so.
Of course, we’ll be curious to stay posted on this one and see what the real-life explanation for these anomalies turns out to be, but if it’s all a few sort of PR stunt for the new line of Universal Monster movies, well, kudos to them. Temperature differences between adjacent stones from limestone with varying qualities often range from 0.1 to 0.5 degrees but the research team detected a 6-degree difference at the ground level of the Khufu pyramid. Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh el-Damaty said the scans showed a small passage on the ground characterized by varying temperatures. “We have several hypothesis but no conclusion for the moment”, Tayoubi said.
