Reservation for SC/ST/OBC to continue, assures PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that November 26, the day Constitution was adopted, will be observed as “Constitution Day” as a step towards spreading awareness about the life of its chief architect Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
He also announced that November 26 would be celebrated as Constitution Day when each person would be made aware of the enormous contributions of Ambedkar and his thoughts.
Later, he went to the Indu Mills Compound in the adjacent complex and completed the foundation- laying ceremony for the Ambedkar Memorial proposed to be constructed there at a cost of over Rs. 4 billion on the 12.5 acres plot.
“Babasaheb Ambedkar is an inspiration not just for one community but for the entire world”, he said.
Space, sea and technology are the future of India’s growth, the PM said.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over rising communal incidents encourages violent and intolerant parts within the nation. Why he did not speak after Bhagwat’s comment that his government would not rethink on reservations?
Significantly, Shiv Sena leaders, including chief Uddhav Thackeray, totally avoided the function despite the Sena being one of the BJP’s oldest allies.
“Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and myself spoke to leaders of our other alliance partners and invited them for the events”, Danve said.
Later, he will lay the foundation stone for another major infrastructure project, the second phase of the Mumbai metro, covering two parallel corridors from Dahisar to Andheri.
“Fadnavis is a man with small heart”.
Uddhav said that they had first raised the demand for loan waivers for farmers a decade ago and added that this had led to criticism from people like NCP chief and then union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, who had derided him as a “shahari babu” (city slicker).
The event was boycotted by NDA government’s ally Shiv Sena but attended by many dignitaries including Governor and CM of Maharashtra, Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of late Dr.Ambedkar and many more.
According to plans, the Ambedkar Memorial will have am over 100 feet tall statue of Ambedkar, a museum, a library and research centre and other facilities for tourists.
