Reserve Your Very Own Pebble Time Steel for Only $249
If you reserve your Pebble Time Steel now, your new watch will ship in six to eight weeks, just enough time to employ the device during the last few weeks of the pennant races and the beginning of the new NFL season.
The regular bezelicious Pebble Time went up for sale not too long ago and while you still can’t get the metal clad version – the Pebble Time Steel – it is now officially available for anyone that was on the fence about dishing out money during its wildly successful Kickstarter campaign. The major difference between the two is that Time Steel is made completely of steel. Fear not, though; Pebble says that all backers of the Pebble Time Steel should have their new smartwatches sitting cool on their wrists by the end of next month.
According to a report by the Verge, after using the Pebble Time Steel smartwatch for six days, it didn’t require a single recharge. The tiny 64-color LCD still bears a limited palette and muted colors, but it’s notably less reflective, bringing an improved indoor reading quality.
For the price, unless an extensive battery life, an always-on display, and compatibility across multiple devices are determining factors in whether to purchase a smartwatch or not, it may be a better idea to look elsewhere for your next (first?) smartwatch. Unlike the Time display, the Time Steel also forgoes the air gap located between the glass lens and LCD panel. Whether that’s enough to warrant spending the extra money (sometimes upwards of $100 more) for a Pebble Time Steel is between you, your wife, and your conscience. It is reported that the watch is slightly bulkier than the Pebble Time watch.
