Resident Evil REmake made into a first-person game is pretty cool
Having played the game on numerous occasions in the past few months, we’re confident the team have achieved that vision in spades. A Resident Evil 5 producer once famously said that the Wii couldn’t even run that game’s title screen. It was nearly too successful for its own good, as the series has found itself unable to grow beyond the gameplay model established for the past decade, only heaping bigger and more ridiculous set-pieces to try and up the ante. However, Capcom will not be making a Switch version of their most successful franchise. It’s still uncertain which Capcom games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
So it’s certainly capable of delivering awesome performance on compelling titles and it would be really very interesting to see what short of triple-A experiences fans will get to see for Switch once developers start building the games specifically for it.
You may have already read our review of Resident Evil 7, which called it “an excellent game that pushes the series in worthy new directions”. Despite the fact that I’m especially sensitive to artificial locomotion in VR, the first-person view of the game, with its gamepad controls, was pretty easy to take for about 30 minutes of uninterrupted play.
Kitchen debuted at E3 two years ago but we’re told that it wasn’t a test bed for the game, but rather a proof of concept for team Capcom. We’ve made sure to include as many options as possible so that each player can tailor the settings to best suit their comfort. The survival horror series started out great, resulting to tens of installments that deteriorated in quality at some point.
“I remember there being this big article where it compared the dangers you face to different death scenes in horror movies”, said Grip. This follows the decision to keep Resident Evil 7 focused on the core elements of the franchise like horror, which are largely brought to life through the game’s new atmospheric first-person perspective.
