Resident, suspect charged in fatal home invasion shooting
Police have charged an Akron man with voluntary manslaughter after he allegedly shot and killed a home invasion suspect earlier this month.
He’s accused of shooting and killing burglary suspect Marcus Glover, 25, of Akron, on August. 7.
Prosecutors say Tart is charged with aggravated burglary for the break-in and murder for having helped cause Glover’s death.
Hillis was in his home with two other people when two burglars broke in.
Hillis turned himself in to police Monday morning, accompanied by his attorney.
When Hillis pulled out a gun, the two men started to run away.
Hillis chased them into the yard and fired multiple shots.
He was arrested and bailed for the Barbeton robbery in 2005, and while awaiting trial he robbed the home of a couple who he tied up and hit with a shotgun.
The claim of self-defense may have been made baseless once Hillis began chasing the suspect.
Hillis was arraigned in Akron Municipal Court and booked into the Summit County Jail.
