Revenant, Martian Win Big at Golden Globes
DiCaprio’s revenge drama “The Revenant” and Damon’s space adventure “The Martian” took the top film awards at Sunday’s Golden Globes.
Also, the Golden Globes recognized many new talents.
The Golden Globes handed out their annual awards and showed once again that the race is far from over. According to Time, Ricky Gervais will return as host after a three-year hiatus, stepping in for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who have co-hosted the Globes the past few years.
Alejandro G. Iñárritu picked up the Best Director Golden Globe award for “The Revenant”. In fact, one of the best moments of the night was his introduction of Matt Damon as the only person Ben Affleck has remained faithful to. Most suspected that Alicia Vikander would go home with the award especially since she was nominated for two awards.
The movie saw off competition from Carol, Mad Max: Fury Road, Room, and Spotlight.
But all will come into focus on Thursday when Oscar nominees are announced.
So what does that mean for Oscar night, which is on February 28? With time zone adjustments, NBC’s three-hour telecast averaged 18.5 million viewers and a 5.5 rating among adults 18-49.

Brie Larson, 26, beat veteran Cate Blanchett to take home her first major award for playing a young woman who is abducted and locked up for years in the movie drama “Room”. Last year’s victor Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”) went on to win the Oscar as well.
Quentin Tarantino accepted the award for Ennio Morricone’s score for his “The Hateful Eight” – a victor that presenter Jamie Foxx initially read as “Straight Outta Compton” in a parody of the Miss Universe victor debacle.
Maura Tierney won for Best Supporting Actress in a Series for “The Affair”. Stallone received a standing ovation from everyone in the audience.
The movie that wins the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast has gone on to win Oscar’s Best Picture seven out of the last 10 years.
“The Son of Saul”, a Hungarian about the Holocaust, won for Best Foreign Language film.
Jonah Hill dressed up as the bear from The Revenant and proceeded to give an acceptance speech in character, while repeatedly dropping the F-bomb on live TV…
