Rex Ryan’s return to Meadowlands a success, Bills beat Jets 22-17

Following the Buffalo Bills’ 22-17 win over the NY Jets on Thursday Night Football, Rex Ryan finally opened up on what it was like to face his former team.

It’s the eye-catching uniforms the Buffalo Bills and NY Jets wore Thursday night as part of the NFL’s “Color Rush” promotion with Nike. His defence had two interceptions, recovered a fumble and stopped the Jets inside the Bills 10 in the final minutes – prompting a few vigorous fist pumps Ryan repeated, along with a flying headset, when Bacarri Rambo clinched it with a last-minute pick.

The Jets now fall to 5-4 this year and are 1-1 in primetime. The previous look we got like that they blitzed and came out and disguised it and instead of him blitzing, the guy that was doubling me, he actually stayed out there…

Head coach Todd Bowles on if he feels this was a game the Jets should have won… However, Thursday’s result doubly enhanced the Bills’ hopes of ending an NFL-long 15-year playoff drought while laying a twin blow to the postseason aspirations of the Jets, who lost for the third time in four games. But Ryan’s defense held.

Rambo then closed out the game with an interception in the waning seconds on a pass by Ryan Fitzpatrick that was intended for Kenbrell Thompkins, allowing the offense to kneel out the remaining seconds on the clock to deliver a crucial 22-17 victory.

“There’s a bad taste in my mouth right now, just how it all went”, cornerback Darrelle Revis said. Ryan has always been willing to make himself the punching bag because in his mind – regardless of whether or not it’s true – he believes there is an advantage in removing attention from his players. The Jets released Enemkpali, of course, in August after he sucker-punched quarterback Geno Smith in a locker room altercation. Williams scooted 19 yards for a 9-3 lead, although Carpenter missed the extra point.

Carpenter added a 41-yard field goal to make it 12-3 at halftime, then kicked a 29-yarder midway through the third period after Chris Ivory’s fumble.

Fitzpatrick was hurt November 1 in a loss to the Oakland Raiders, but he returned to lead NY to a win Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars before playing Thursday against Buffalo.

Ivory lost a fumble that led to a Buffalo field goal in the third quarter. But as the game progressed, offensive coordinator Greg Roman wisely moved from the deep ball and chunk plays to more manageable throws, and a comprehensive rushing attack. LeSean McCoy ran for 112 yards on 19 carries and had five catches for 47 yards.

“He was a clown and an embarrassment to the organization”, said Mike Brodersen of Floral Park, New York, who said he goes back to the days of Walt Michaels as coach in the 1970s and ’80s.

“It probably meant everything to him, man”, Bradham said.

But because the Jets’ doctors and trainers had already figured out a way to stabilize and to protect the thumb with a molded brace and a protective glove, Fitzpatrick should be able to do the same, post-surgery. His players gave him the game ball, and Ryan’s message wasn’t much different than usual.
