Rex Tillerson Arrives in Kuwait for Talks on Qatar Crisis
In an effort to regain lost revenue for Qatari businesses and exert pressure on the four blockade countries isolating it, Qatar has announced it will be seeking financial compensation. The alliance accuses Qatar of destabilizing the region by supporting proxies of Shiite-dominant Iran as well as Sunni extremists, charges the sheikdom has denied.
Qatar hosts Udeid Air Base, the largest US military facility in the Middle East, from which USA -led coalition aircraft stage sorties against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. At the same time, Murray did not specify the details, adding that the body will use both internal and global mechanisms to claim compensation, and hiring foreign law firms to claims.

Qatar remains “committed to all its agreements with its partners and is determined to maintain this status despite the illegal and unjust embargo imposed on it”, the statement said, referring to LNG exports.

Qatar, already the world’s largest liquefied gas exporter, lifted a self-imposed ban on development of the North Field in April and earlier in July, it said it would raise gas output capacity by around 30 percent to 100 billion cubic meters.
On June 5, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt abruptly severed diplomatic ties with Qatar, suspending transport links with Doha and ordering all Qataris to repatriate within 14 days.
“Before that, between 1971 and 1995 after the United Kingdom left the region, Qatar was under the umbrella of Saudi Arabia, as well as other small states in the region”, he said. The demands include shuttering Doha-based media network Al-Jazeera, cutting ties with Islamist groups, and expelling all Iranian and Turkish military elements working in the country.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said last week that Qatar’s had responded negatively to the demands, saying Qatar’s response was “overall negative and lacked any substance”.
