RGIII Says “I Feel Like I’m The Best Quarterback In The League”
Despite going 5-18 as a starter over his last 23 games, Griffin reiterated to Redskins nation that he’s the best quarterback on their team and also the best quarterback in the league.
If you don’t think Spieth believes he is better than everyone out there each week, you are sorely mistaken.
While speaking with DC Sports Bog, the former Heisman Trophy victor was asked if he felt he had something to prove during the upcoming 2015 NFL season.
Griffin is only 25 years old, so it’s within the realm of possibility that he could figure things out and become one of the best quarterbacks in the league; heck, anything’s possible.
Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III with some fans at Chuy’s restaurant in Richmond on Friday. RGIII? Really?
But it’s not personal: To Slay, it’s his goal to “make a play on every quarterback to make everybody mad at me”. Any athlete at any level, if they concede to someone else, they’re not a top competitor, they’re not trying to be the best they can be.
I think Robert Griffin III will have a good season this year but the best in the league? He has struggled for two seasons, though injuries have certainly played a part.
The comments led to derision in the press and social media, from those who view Griffin as a talented but brittle quarterback who has failed to show his best form after a dream rookie season. “There’s more business that goes into it, there’s more ruthlessness, backstabbing than you would expect. I look forward to seeing my baby girl and my wife when I get back home”.
The Washington Post’s Mike Jones says Griffin has made progress.
In reality, Griffin’s quote was more nuanced than headlines suggested, and he acknowleged it was more of a nod to his competitive nature than reality.
Griffin said he doesn’t like today’s culture of constant scrutiny, but accepts it as a reality and doesn’t feel outside pressure.
“And then you come out and you perform, and you do what you’re supposed to do and do your job to the best of your ability”, he said. I’m sure he’ll love sharing more thoughts about his career after this.
