Rich Rodriguez meeting with SC, report says
According to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports, Rodriguez and the Gamecocks plan to meet regarding the open head coaching position. The list includes Houston head coach Tom Herman, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley and Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and reportedly South Florida head coach Willie Taggart and former Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano.
Rodriguez’s children have grown up in Tucson, and when the coach left West Virginia for MI earlier in his career he experienced moving into a more pressure-packed situation.
He either made a mistake on social media, or he’s not pleased with SC trying to lure his coach away, and he wants Gamecocks athletic director Ray Tanner to know it.
Rodriguez has a 32-20 record, including 17-18 in the Pac-12, at UA from 2012-15. The Wildcats were 10-4 in 2014 but fell to 6-6 this year.
But I don’t think this is a great fit for Rodriguez or SC.
Rodriguez tweeted shortly after he was “happy and honored” to remain with the school.
Previously, Rodriguez was also linked in rumors to head coaching jobs at Virginia Tech and Miami.
This year, the Wildcats are bowl eligible and await their postseason destination.
