Richard Petty comments on Matt Kenseth vs. Joey Logano and Kenseth’s NASCAR
Kenseth has been summoned to NASCAR headquarters in Daytona Beach, Fla., to discuss his post-suspension comments with Chairman Brian France. Kenseth also took to Twitter following the meeting, indicating that he considers the matter closed.
In an interview last week, Kenseth stood by his actions and said he felt encouraged to retaliate because France praised Logano’s actions at Kansas as “quintessential NASCAR”.
Although his suspension – resulting from his collision with Joey Logano at Martinsville – is now fully served, Kenseth remains on probation for the Homestead race.
Logano’s predicament is his own fault, Kenseth believes, because the young driver could have put an end to the feud at any point before Martinsville. Logano, who drives for Team Penske and is the series wins leader with six, was eliminated from championship contention on Sunday at Phoenix global Raceway.
Never denying he spun Kenseth, Logano contends he was left with little choice because Kenseth repeatedly blocked him – including one instance where he pushed Logano into the outside wall. He could see the Kenseth-Logano run-in coming. I just think they’ve got to be consistent.
Kenseth views his behavior at Martinsville to be “parallel” to Jeff Gordon intentionally wrecking Clint Bowyer at Phoenix in 2012.
“It’s not going to change how I race, I’m going to be more fired up, probably less tolerant, and I’m planning on from here on out being a lot more aggressive”, Kenseth said. I took people out and they took me out, and it was deliberate, but it wasn’t that brazen.
Q. Do you think NASCAR should have stepped in before that got out of hand?
