Richt will not coach UGA in bowl game
Richt’s final game coaching the Bulldogs is now last Saturday’s 13-7 victory over Georgia Tech. The 31-year-old McClendon is also the wide receivers coach. Assistant head coach/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon will serve as interim head coach. ³This will be the least disruptive option for our players and staff as they begin preparations for our bowl game.².
With Mark Richt set to be introduced Friday as Miami’s new coach, Georgia will go forward without him in its bowl game.
Sources told Klein that Richt started crying heavily and became very emotional when he spoke to the team Thursday afternoon.
McClendon will turn 32 on December 28, right in the middle of bowl practice.
Brian Schottenheimer and Jeremy Pruitt will continue in their roles as the offensive and defensive coordinator, respectively, for the bowl game.
An Atlanta native, McClendon is the son of former Georgia and Chicago Bears running back Willie McClendon, the 1978 Southeastern Conference player of the year.
Then Wednesday, reports came out saying Richt was taking the head ball coach job at The University of Miami. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is expected to be named UGA’s new coach, according to Chip Towers of the AJC and DawgNation. Get to coach one more time with these guys and finish the season?
