The API (Application Program Interface) of the RICOH THETA S is based on Open Spherical Camera API that is supported by Google in order to be compatible with services of Google.
Japanese multinational imaging and electronics company, Ricoh, which is well known among Indians for office equipment and printers, has launched a new 360-degree camera called the Ricoh Theta S. The device is all set to hit the Indian market by December 14 and is priced at Rs 39,995. The device is available for sale via e-commerce portal Amazon as well as various Ricoh dealers across the country.
The high-spec model has been created to let users capture 360° photos & videos in high resolution from the comfort of their palm.
The Ricoh Theta S features two ultra-wide lenses with an angle of view of more than 180 degrees each, and the f/2.0 lenses ensure more light passes as compared to the Theta m15.
Featuring a dual 1/ 2.3-inch, twin fisheye lenses-each with 1/ 2.3- inch 12MP sensors- can capture complete 360-degree spherical panoramas in a single shot. The users can record spherical video in full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels at 30fps) with maximum recording time of 25 mins.
Users can share the captured images to their friends by simply uploading them to theta360.com, which enables to share via Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr, and posted to Google Maps, Google+ and YouTube 360°Channel. The device is the latest addition to the company’s Ricoh Theta series.
The Theta S has similar dimensions as your regular air-conditioner remote, and weighs just 125 grams. You may even live stream images when connected via USB and even take long exposure shots through the app. The rated battery life is 300 shots, but that is subject to vary according to Wi-Fi usage and video shooting time (if any). It comes with 8GB internal storage and there is no microSD card slot. It has an ISO range going from 100 to 1600 for still images and video.
It’s hard to give any sort of verdict on the image or video quality during our short demo of the camera but we will say this – it is one of the easiest ways to capture 360-degree footage. On the other end i.e. the top, you’ll find a microphone and a speaker.
On the body’s right hand side exist the power button, Wi-fi and shooting mode toggle buttons.
Hope, this new spherical camera of 360 degrees will create a sensation in the gadgets market.
