‘Ride Along 2’ dethrones ‘Star Wars’ at N. America box office

Rentrak, the market leader in measuring movie ticket sales, has reported that the domestic weekend box office will find “Ride Along 2”, with $35 million dollars in tickets sold, as the nation’s new favorite movie.
After four weeks atop box office charts, Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens has ceded first place to Universal’s Ride Along 2. While fans will have to wait until Episode 8 or Episode 9 release to get that answer, “Star Wars Episode 9” director Colin Trevorrow, in a recent interview, has promised that fans won’t get disappointed when Rey’s lineage is revealed.
Landing in third place was “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which added another $32.6 million to its tally.
Fresh off its 12 Oscar nominations, “The Revenant” holds on to its No. 2 spot at the box office, bringing in an estimated million.

Ride Along 2 may struggle to reach $100 million due to its smaller than anticipated opening. The Fox Searchlight release has grossed $25 million.

Its $5.2 million was only a 16% drop from last weekend. “Boonie Bears III”, $16 million. 4. “Royal Treasure”, $11.5 million. 6. According to Nomura Holdings Inc, a Japanese research group, the latest movie is projected to earn around $230 million over its full run in Chinese cinemas.
Daddy’s Home enjoyed another weekend in the top 5 making $9.3 million.
