Ridiculous to strip McGregor of title – Kavanagh
McGregor had been the only concurrent holder of two divisional titles since winning the lightweight title at UFC 205 earlier this month.
An Aldo-Holloway fight would have made more sense than any other to make if the Dubliner was to be stripped and a fight for a new champion was to take place. Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis will duke it out for the second strap in the main event of UFC 206 since an injury to Daniel Cormier scrapped its previously scheduled light heavyweight title bout with Anthony Johnson.
“They brought in another interim title that Jose Aldo already had and bumped Jose Aldo up to the current undisputed champion”.
Jose Aldo has branded Conor McGregor a “coward” and claims he only lost his featherweight title to the Irishman “by accident”. He had the interim, they gave him the real one now. “I don’t even look at that stuff anymore”, Pettis said on the UFC 206 conference call on Tuesday.
In addition, the new UFC 206 main event on December 10 between Max Holloway and former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will be contested for the interim featherweight title. I know he can go back down and defend his title, no problem.
“It’s really just up to him, whatever he wants to do”, said Nelson. “I’m going to have this baby, take a little time and see what way I feel after that”. “Then we’ll worry when Jose wants his shot”.
After theannouncement made the headlines, Conor McGregor’s coach broke his silence as he expressed his dismay towards UFC’s decision.
“It’s a tough fight for him at lightweight, with Khabib (Nurmagomedov), or a rematch with me, so he preferred to drop mine (belt)”.
We’d ask what else could go wrong, but with Conor McGregor yet to react, it’s not hard to imagine how this “shortsighted” move from the UFC could ripple out and cost them a lot of money in the long run.
Being awarded the title of undisputed champion without having won it in the octagon will always result in accusations of being a “paper champion”. “They’re different style of fighters, but I have no doubt in my mind that Conor will run through either one of them”.
Although he lost the only title fight that stretched into the fifth round – a decision to Rafael dos Anjos – Pettis said preparing for three prior title fights is an advantage. I don’t talk to him or see the stuff he posts or have a conversation with the guy.
